Title: European University
Funding programme: Erasmus+ – Strategic Partnerships
Description: CO2 emissions, the corona virus, discrimination against minorities and the ongoing digitization of society don’t care about physical borders. That is exactly why these topics should be addressed internationally. The CARPE organization wants to be at the forefront of solving these issues. Therefor we submitted the proposal CARPE European University as a Erasmus + project at the end of February. Parties in this proposal are Turku, Hamburg, Utrecht and the University of the West of Scotland. The decision of the funding of the project will be made in July.
Our goal is to capitalise on the strengths of the network and to address the challenges our cities and metropolitan areas face and contribute to the solutions of these challenges through research and educating the professionals of the future. We will increase our existing collaboration as partners and with our municipalities and stakeholders. We will position them actively in our European University as providers, in search of answers and solutions, for research questions and challenges.
Intensive collaboration with our municipalities, cities and its citizens and regional stakeholders provides us a vibrant context for education and research, therefore we see the city as our campus. What unifies all partners in this consortium is our profile of applied research and professional education, strong relationships with the metropolitan areas we are located in and the professional practice.
This profile also defines the initiative of the CARPE European University. Our European University will offer students innovative, state of the art, international, flexible and challenge-based education on Smart Sustainable Cities and European citizenship, identity and values.
The European University enables us to increase the impact on society and professional practice. Our focus is on:
– Smart sustainable cities: based on our experiences and strengths with social inclusiveness and innovation, health & well-being, carbon neutral cities and smart mobility
– Innovative Pedagogy: real-life challenges, soft and hard skills, compentences and value-based education
– CARPE Research en Transfer Agenda that contributes to mutual inter— and trans disciplinary teams in which we collaborate with our local and regional partners
